Girls Weekend @ Rainbow Mountain

October 24-26

Each spring and fall there is a Crossdressers weekend at the Rainbow Mountain Resort, which is a few miles north of East Stroudsburg, in the Poconos. Everyone always has a great time because it is a chance to dress and be dressed for more than a few hours at a time. In my case, it is the whole weekend. There are always several first timers, as well those who return every year. It is an event I hate to miss.

The Rainbow is a gay resort that is open to all alternate life style people the rest of the year. But two weekends a year they have special activities for the CD crowd. There are several buildings scattered over many acres on the top of a hill with the weekend starting on Friday evening in the main lodge with a wine and cheese party so that all can get to know each other. This get-together is followed by a high quality complete dinner. For starters, I have had Duck rolls with greens and my spouse has ordered the smoked salmon. There are always several other choices including soup. Next on the menu is a mixed green salad with homemade dressings such as sun dried tomato or fresh blue cheese and Italian. I especially enjoyed the sesame ginger dressing. Of course there was sorbet to cleanse the palate at this point. For the main course there is always a wide choice from duck to steak to fish, all expertly prepared and nicely presented. My spouse has commented that the Free Range! Chicken was the softest juiciest chicken she ever had. In spite of being full, everyone managed to find room for dessert. My favorite is the baked apples and ice cream in a flaky shell. The wait-help are very courteous, friendly and CD minded with statements like "Ma'am" and "Ladies" the norm.

The evening moves to the Lizard Bar where all can karaoke with her best feminine voice. Upstairs is another bar and a large dance floor. Some girls just love all the mirrors around this area. On Saturday night, the place hops as a DJ provides the disco music. Other CD oriented entertainment is provided in the Lizard Lounge.

Accommodations range from economical and Spartan in the main lodge, where a bathroom must be shared, to midrange in the Cherry house, to the motel section where there is the luxury of Queen size beds and TV's ( the viewing type) in each room. The luxury units are in a separate building a short walk away. Reservations for these must be made months ahead of time.

Saturday begins with a restaurant style breakfast of omelets or pancakes. The coffee cup is rarely allowed to be empty, especially if Stephanie, a CD Sissy Maid attends and helps out. During the day, vendors provide needed items for those who want to become more beautiful. These include Mary Kay cosmetic makeovers, a person who does nails, and others that cater to our needs. There is a Flea Market and outlet center a short distance away and Tammie would rather shop than stay in the lodge. If the weather is nice as it was this past June, many become tourists and view the spectacular Bushkill Falls, a short drive away.

Dinner Saturday night features the same menu as Friday night as well as specials such as Prime Rib and Chicken Marcela. The highlight of the early evening is a fashion show hosted by Shangri-La, an active CD, who runs the karaoke on Fridays. All the girls have a chance to show off their finest fashions while parading through the dining room. Cameras are continuously flashing during this event.

The weekend ends after breakfast on Sunday, as many make reservations for the next CD event.

What does it cost? Prices range from $300 to $500 for two people, singles being less. The Cherry House, which has a private bath and a double bed is about $340 for two. There are events in the spring and the fall.    Since the Rainbow is open all year, many local CD's use the place for a Saturday night out. Dinner alone is worth the drive and we are always welcome.
